I can't sleep

Not getting enough sleep can make it more difficult to successfully manage responsibilities (like school and work) throughout the day. If you’re having difficulty sleeping, here are some tips that might help:

  • Establish a daily sleep routine where you go to sleep and wake up at the same time
  • Establish a relaxing bedtime routine like reading, taking a warm bath, or listening to soothing music
  • Sleep in a room that is dark, quiet, comfortable, and cool
  • Turn off all electronics
  • Exercise regularly, but not right before bedtime
  • Reserve your bed for sleep—not eating, doing homework, or browsing the internet
  • Avoid long naps during the day
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine 4-6 hours before bedtime
  • Avoid heavy, spicy, sugary foods 4-6 hours before bedtime
